Radiotherapy Research Tools

Resources for performing research with equipment from Varian Medical Systems.

Developer Workshop

The 2016 Developer Workshop was held in Washington, DC, on July 29 and 30.

The Developer Workshop is a 2-day program designed to instruct attendees on the fundamentals of Varian's Research and Developer Tools via intensive hands-on exercises and presentations.

Tools

TrueBeam Developer Mode

Enables the control of the movement and radiation delivery of the TrueBeam linear accelerator.

Monte Carlo solutions

We support customers in developing Monte Carlo simulations. This includes distribution of phase space files written out above the jaws for TrueBeam (available on myvarian.com), and the VirtuaLinac, our web-based Monte Carlo simulation tool. It enables collaborators to simulate the TrueBeam linear accelerator from the exit window to a water phantom. To learn more, see our presentation at the 2014 Developer Workshop and a paper in which researchers at Dalhousie in collaboration with us used the VirtuaLinac to investigate novel targets. For more information about Monte Carlo simulations at Varian, see our newsletter.

Eclipse APIs

The Varian Developers Forum has information on Varian Eclipse Scripting and Eclipse Algorithm APIs.

Motion management

We have developed a method of selecting a motion management strategy for a given patient. The method involves creation of probability density functions for individual sources of uncertainty, especially the position of the lesion as a function of time, then convolving the individual PDFs. We published a paper in Phys. Med. Biol. (pdf; open access) using the method with motion traces from the literature.
